Northamptonshire E-waste and Electrical Recycling: The journey into the tech waste industry
My path into the e-waste industry began in late 2023, when I was helping my father install a new boiler system. At the time, I didn’t realise how valuable certain metals—especially copper—could be. We had left a pile of copper pipe out for scrap collectors, only to learn in the pub that we’d unknowingly left a fair amount of money sitting on the lawn. We rushed back and reclaimed it, and that moment sparked my curiosity about the hidden value in materials people often throw away. This was the first time I began to appreciate the value in metals such as copper, brass and aluminium, which are all common in a significant portion of e-waste.
Around the same time, I had been following the work of an Australian e-waste recycler. I learned an great deal about the industry, how it operated and the best ways to derive value from scrap electrical items. Watching the process of breaking down old electrical devices and sorting metals in bulk for recycling struck me as both practical and rewarding. Looking back, I realised this passion had always been there. As a child, I would take apart broken electrical items like laptops just to see how they worked—even if I didn’t yet know what to do with the parts.
Bringing these experiences together, moving into the e-waste business felt like a natural step. For me, it’s more than just work—it’s a perfect fit.
